11 December 2014	Delegation to Visit the South Thursday	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy and a number of UN agency representatives will be visiting the South of Lebanon on Thursday 12 October 2006. The delegation will also include representatives from donor organizations such as the Union of Arab Banks as well as a number of UNESCWA senior staff and experts. During her visit, Tallawy is expected to reveal the nature of the assistance that UNESCWA will be providing to the South in the next stage.
28 September 2015	10th Session of the ESCWA Committee on Social Development	Hosted by the government of the Kingdom of Morocco, ESCWA convened the 10th Session of its Committee on Social Development on 8-9 September in Rabat. 29 May 2017	Executive Secretary Discusses with Former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Combating Violent Extremism	“Violent extremism walks in when shared society withdraws,” today said former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina and member of “Club de Madrid” Zlatko Lagumdzija, who paid a visit to the UN House in Beirut, and met with Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim. The meeting was attended by ESCWA Deputy Executive Khawla Mattar and Director of ESCWA Emerging and Conflict-related Issues Division Tarek Alami as well as “Club de Madrid” Senior Program Officer Maram Anbar.

11 December 2014	Secretary-General Appoints Rima Khalaf of Jordan as Executive Secretary of ESCWA	United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced the appointment of Rima Khalaf, a national of Jordan, as Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). She succeeds Bader Al-Dafa, to whom the Secretary-General said he is grateful for his dedication and commitment to the Organization and his leadership of ESCWA at a critical juncture of its work in the region.

11 December 2014	UNESCWA Signs Memorandum with Arab ICT Associations	The Officer-in-Charge of the UNESCWA Information and Communication Technology Division, Mr. Mansour Farah, said that UNESCWA and the Union of Arab Information and Communication Technology Associations (IJMA3) have agreed to launch specific activities aimed at facilitating the dissemination of information and communication technology (ICT) in the region, with special emphasis on job creation and poverty alleviation.
