10 April 2019	Seminar on Monitoring the Implementation of Energy Related SDG Indicators in the Arab Region	In the framework of tracking the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG7 and its related indicators, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing a seminar on: “Monitoring the Implementation of Energy Related SDG Indicators” in the Arab Region. The objective of the seminar is to consult on the progress achieved by ESCWA’s member countries on the implementation of the SDG7 goals with additional focus on climate actions and the interlinkages between SDG7 and SDG13 and finally provide an opportunity to fill the data gaps present in the Arab region.
22 November 2019	Socioeconomic Dialogue technical meeting: Integration and Consolidation of the Thematic Priority Areas as identified in the Baseline studies	Following the last EGM held on 14-15 September 2019 in Tunis; ESCWA’s Libya SED integrated, as agreed, the set of broad arrays of priorities which were identified by the authors of the papers and discussants into thematic areas which encapsulated the harmonization of these priorities in the agenda below. The opening session of the meeting will present the progress made so far, the challenges encountered, and upcoming planned activities. It will help participants familiarize (and engage) themselves further with the project’s mission and stages. The objective of the following sessions of the meeting in the agenda which will be led by ESCWA moderators and Libyan discussants will be aimed at having a detailed discussion and exchange feedback and comments on the draft developed integrated thematic areas and their components and solidify their content and to discuss and exchange their views and provide their feedback on the overall thematic areas which will then be the basis for drafting discussion papers in preparation for the dialogue sessions beginning of year 2020. These sessions will also feature miscellaneous additional recommendations that need further consideration that could benefit the Libya project and feed into the socioeconomic and governance aspects of the future work to be done.
5 December 2014	Inter-regional Seminar on "Participatory Development and Conflict Resolution: Path of Democratic Transition and Social Justice"	Since the beginning of 2011, countries of the region have been experiencing events that are necessitating the revision of their policy options, and are increasing their interests in the process of democratic transition as a way to promote participatory development and establish peace and security. The recent uprisings witnessed in countries of the region, are pressing for reform of their systems of governance and the adoption of democratic standards, which only confirms that such a choice is possible.
5 December 2014	Regional Follow-up to the Outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society	Registration is closed In keeping with the recommendations of the WSIS "Tunis Agenda for the Information Society" and in order to propel the WSIS momentum forward, ESCWA is holding, a conference entitled " Regional Follow-up to the Outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society ". The conference will take place at the Umayyad Congress Palace in Damascus, between 16 and 18 June 2009.

8 September 2020	Presentation of final results of the comprehensive baseline mapping study for the energy situation of the building sector in Tunisia	The objective of this National Workshop is to present to the key actors in the building sector in Tunisia – in particular, the project’s National Task Force – the final results of the comprehensive baseline mapping study for the energy situation of the building sector in Tunisia. Members of the Project’s National Task Force, which include representatives of relevant public & private stakeholders for the considered branches of activities and other key actors in the building sector, will be solicited to help in validating these final results. The outputs of this mapping exercise shall constitute the basis for the remaining project activities and will help in defining the main axis and players for conducting the energy efficiency actions in the building sector in Tunisia. This National Workshop is part of the activities scheduled in the UN Development Account (UNDA) project on “Up-scaling Energy Efficiency in the residential and services sectors in the Arab Region”.
16 March 2016	E-forum on Participation and Consensus Building	Two years after the eruption of the Arab uprisings, protestors continue to fill the streets of major Arab cities. While the initial objective of the Arab uprisings was to pressure their long time rulers to step down, Arab citizens also demanded their rights to dignity, social justice and to participate in the making of their futures. However, the means through which to achieve those demands remains unclear.
5 December 2014	Applying IWRM Principles in Managing Shared Water Resources: Towards a Regional Vision	The international community has been seeking to establish legal frameworks for improving the management of shared water resources. For instance, the Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in May 1997 (but not yet in force), and the draft articles of the Law of Transboundary Aquifers, which were reviewed by the UNGA in December 2008, propose legal frameworks for managing shared surface and groundwater resources based on international water law principles.
14 January 2021	Capacity-Building Workshop on “Improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings and adopting water-saving irrigation techniques and renewable energy technologies for pumping, irrigation, and water desalination”.	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings and adopting water-saving irrigation techniques and renewable energy technologies for pumping, irrigation, and water desalination”. This workshop aims to build/enhance the knowledge and the practical capacities of a group of peasants in the region of Chorbane (Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia), with regard to improving the yield and quality of fruit tree plantings through the adoption of the best agricultural practices that are compatible with what the region is facing as a result of climate change like water scarcity, by rationalizing the use of the available water resources through using water irrigation saving techniques and renewable energy techniques to desalinate highly saline groundwater and to pump irrigation water. The workshop will provide the participants with theoretical knowledge and practical experience with regards to Water-Energy-Food Nexus, by adopting modern methods of training that integrate theoretical and practical dimensions together through the field school technology.
