ESCWA, in collaboration with Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), United Nations Statistics Division in New York, and United Nations Industrial development organization (UNIDO), organizes a sub-regional workshop on industrial statistics and classifications for the GCC countries during 8-10 May 2012 in Doha, Qatar.

The workshop aims over three days at increasing the participants’ knowledge in the area of collecting, compiling and disseminating industrial statistics. Participants will have an opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge of the relevant statistical systems and international classifications relevant to collecting and compiling industrial statistics and indicators in addition to the required skills for writing statistical reports. The agenda will cover, among other things, the following items:

- Importance of industrial statistics for policy making;
- The international recommendation for industrial statistics (IRIS 2008);
- The international standard industrial classification of all economic activities (ISIC Rev.4);
- The central product classification (CPC Rev.2); and
- Industrial statistics in the GCC countries: status and development needs.
